What do I need to use the functions?

Before you can use voicemail and fax, you must set up these functions in the FRITZ! Box.
You will need a FRITZ!Box, which has a built-in USB port and has installed at least firmware xx.04.80.
First you must connect a USB stick to the FRITZ!Box to proceed with the setup. Exception: If you have a FRITZ!Box 7390, you don´t need to connect any external USB drive, because this model has an internal memory.

Preparation

1. Open the FRITZ!Box Web-Interface.
2. First, click on "Settings" and then "Advanced Settings".
3. "USB Devices" > "USB memory"
   or
   "Memory (NAS)"
4. Select the option "Enable USB storage FTP access" and click "Apply".
5. Make sure that the USB memory is formatted with the FAT file system FAT, FAT32 or NTFS.
6. Connect the USB storage to the port for USB devices to the FRITZ! Box.

Why must I pay the function by in-app purchasing?

Do I have to pay for the function again if I reinstall Dial!Fritz?

No! If you purchased the Voicemail / Fax function by in-app purchasing, you may be use the function on all devices that are operated with the same iTunes account without extra charge.
For that select the Voicemail / Fax view and touch "Buy" and enter your iTunes password when prompted. The function is now enabled for free.

How do I set up voice mail?

Before you can retrieve voicemail messages from the FRITZ!Box, you must have at least one answering machine in the FRITZ!Box configured.
Create new answering machine:

1. Open the FRITZ!Box Web-Interface.
2. Click on "Telephony devices" and on "Set up new device".
3. Choose "In the FRITZ!Box integrated" the option "Voicemail" then click "Continue".
4. Enable the setting "Recorded calls are stored on the USB memory" or "Use USB memory to increase the absorption capacity". With a USB storage device the FRITZ!Box records up to 254 messages from callers.
5. Enter a name for the answering machine and press the "Continue".
6. By clicking "Finish" The answering machine is created.

For existing answering machines, you can activate the function under "Features" > "USB-memory to increase the absorption capacity". If you have a FRITZ!Box 7390, then you can also choose "internally store" menu, if you have not connected a USB device.

No messages are loaded from the answering machine.

It can show only messages that have been recorded after connecting the USB memory.
Make sure you have entered the FTP password in Dial!Fritz, if you have protected the access to the USB memory by a password.

How do I set up Fax?

Before you can retrieve fax messages from the internal FRITZ!Box fax, you must set up the receiving of faxes in the FRITZ!Box.
Create Fax:

1. Open the FRITZ!Box Web-Interface.
2. "Settings" > "Advanced Settings" > "Telephony" > "Telephony Devices"
3. Click "Set up new device" and select in "In the FRITZ!Box integrated" the option "Fax".
4. Confirm with "Next".
5. The faxes have to be stored on a USB memory that is connected to the FRITZ!Box. Select "store on the USB Memory".

If the setting can not be activated, there is no USB memory connected.
If Fax is already configured, you can activate the function under "Features" > "store on the USB Memory". If you have a FRITZ!Box 7390, then you can also choose "internally store" menu, if you have not connected a USB device.

No fax messages are loaded from the FRITZ!Box.

It can show only fax messages that have been saved after connecting the USB memory.
Make sure you have entered the FTP password in Dial!Fritz, if you have protected the access to the USB memory by a password.

How can I update voice mail and fax over the mobile network or outside my FRITZ!Box network?

To access your voicemails and faxes from on the go, you must enable remote access sharing to the USB stick.

Setting up FRITZ!Box FTP access from the Internet

Perform the steps in this section only if you want to share the FTP access to the USB storage for users on the Internet:
Set up Remote Access

1. Set up the FRITZ!Box remote access as described in the Dial!Fritz help.

Share FTP access for users to the Internet
Enable password protection for the USB memory and enable it for users from the Internet:

1. Open the FRITZ!Box Web-Interface.
2. Click "settings".
3. "Advanced Settings"> "System"> "Expert view"
4. Activate the option "expert view" and click "Apply".
5. "USB Devices > "USB memory" or "storage (NAS)"
6. Activate the option "password protect".
7. Enter in "Password" and "password confirmation" any password.
8. Select the option "Share USB-memory for users on the Internet"" and click "Apply"

You have to enter the password into the Dial!Fritz settings for voicemail and fax on FTP Password and save.
Note that for the retrieval of voicemail and faxes there is no secure connection available on the FRITZ!Box and your password is transmitted unencrypted!
